Why Modernisation Matters

Zimbabwe's road safety is constrained by mechanical defects. Proactive enforcement and digital systems protect lives and transport assets.

Critical Statistics (Q1 2025)

Zimbabwe recorded 12,808 accidents, resulting in 2,599 injuries and 464 fatalities, primarily tied to vehicle brake wear, tyre failures, and steering defects.

Strategic Infrastructure

Deploying 23 modernised VID hubs and upgrading 10 provincial CMED engineering workshops equipped with automated brake testers, alignment tools, and emissions systems.

Full Digital Integrity

Eliminating revenue leakage and certificate manipulation via 100% cashless collections, lane CCTV cameras, sensor logging, and cryptographic QR stickers verifiable via mobile scans.

Zimbabwe Road Traffic Act (Chapter 13:11)

Statutory Law & Mandatory Regular Testing

Under the statutory laws of Zimbabwe, all commercial carriers and passenger vehicles must undergo rigorous, periodic roadworthiness evaluations. This legal framework enforces strict standards for vehicle operations to safeguard public lives and protect infrastructure.

Public Service Vehicles (PSVs)

Buses, commuter omnibuses (taxis), and commercial transit vehicles require mandatory regular inspections. Operational safety is non-negotiable for passenger transport.

Commercial Vehicles & Haulage

Heavy goods vehicles, trucks, rigs, and trailers are subject to strict automated checking for axle limits, braking efficiencies, and coupling mechanism integrity.

Approved COF

Certificate of Fitness (COF)

Operators must obtain an official Certificate of Fitness (COF) from the Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID) prior to deploying any fleet onto national roads.

Renewal Frequency Every 6 to 12 Months

Renewal intervals depend strictly on the vehicle class, passenger capacity, and gross vehicle weight ratings.
